Today we are pretty giddy with excitement because we have some exciting news to share! We’ve been waiting to share it, and thought today would be the perfect day since voting just went live! 🙂
A local artist, Jessica Schaefer of theBird + theBeard has been selected as a finalist in the 2015 Martha Stewart American Made Awards for her greeting card and stationery business, theBird+theBeard, with a chance to win $10,000.
It’s pretty amazing, and her stuff is SUPER unique… She’s got something for everyone, bride or not, so you’ve got to check out her stuff!
Her vibe is a little (or a lot) 🙂 different than some of the things that you see floating around, like say… hand lettering, but this girls got it going on.
So what does she do? Actually they. Her husband Karl works along side of her. Their business started when they created library-themed designs for their own wedding…. which also turned into greeting cards, and custom wedding invitations and stationery for other couples. The backbone of their designs? Yup, chemistry, computer science, and math as core themes.
They print everything in their home studio, and all of their greeting cards are printed on 100% recycled paper. Their cards have been featured on several international blogs including Huffington Post, and can be found in independent stationery shops across the United States and Canada. Their wedding products have been featured in trade blogs and magazines such as Stationery Trends and are available through their website. They also sell their cards locally at several boutiques, one of which is new to the South Hills area, The Artsmiths of Pittsburgh. You might want to check it out if you are looking for some unique finds, and enjoy shopping local. 🙂
The Martha Stewart American Made Contest is a nationally recognized awards program that celebrates makers who have turned their passions for handcrafted, well-designed goods into small businesses and proudly make their products in America. Each year, the editors at Martha Stewart Living honor these entrepreneurs in the fields of crafts, design, food, and style. In addition to the honorees selected by the Living team, one Audience Choice Winner is chosen through public voting as the recipient of a $10,000 award to help the small business owner grow their business.
Let’s help Jessica get there and start voting! It begins today and you can vote through October 19th! You can VOTE HERE.
