Today we have a classic yet rustic Washington Wedding shot by Cinnamon Wolfe Photography to share with you! Devon and David’s Wedding Day took place at the lovely Pickering Barn in Issaquah, Washington!
Meet Devon and David!
How did you meet your spouse?
I (Devon) was a leader at a camp for Junior High and High School Students. David came and spent the week as a guest speaker at the camp there. We met there and started going out after.
Tell us your proposal story!
We had planned to go to a concert in Seattle that night, so we dressed up nice and planned to spend the whole day together. We started the day by heading out to brunch at Portage Bay and then went to Starbucks right by green lake in Seattle. David kept telling me he wasn’t feeling well, so we just decided to hangout at the Starbucks for a while until the concert started. As we went to leave David told me he had to use the restroom real quick (later found out thats when he was texting the photographer to make sure everything was ready). As we got ready to go, David told me he wanted to walk down by the water to get back to the car. We parked far away and so the walk was beautiful but cold. We just kept walking and walking until we got to a clearing down by the water. David told me he wanted to take a picture then we could go get in the car. As we were standing there, David turned to me and told me how much he loved me. I got very excited thinking this is it, he is proposing. Then quickly though nah, he is going to just tell me he loves me and then we will go back to the car. But David kept talking, I couldn’t believe what was happening and said “Wait, this is really happening”. Next thing I know, David got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I, of course, said yes! After that, he turned me to our friend who was taking pictures for us, which was a dream of mine for our engagement to be captured!
What is your favorite date night?
Going to a new restaurant and exploring the area!
What was the inspiration behind your wedding?
I love anything rustic, so when we found our venue, the Pickering Barn it was the perfect place to incorporate that feel! The barn alone is absolutely beautiful. We kept our decor simple but added some lights in the ceremony room to give it a softer feel. In the reception room, we had wood rounds or crates with flowers and candles at every table. It was perfect!
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Our first looks, seeing each other for the first time on the wedding day was the best! I (Devon), would also say as I walked into the ceremony room, I was completely overwhelmed and couldn’t hold back tears realizing that I get to marry the love of my life and just how many friends and family were there to celebrate and love on us!
What is one piece of wedding planning advice you have for our readers?
Enjoy the time you get to spending planning your wedding and be flexible! Yes, it can be stressful but you only get to do this once so enjoy it! Also, at the end of your wedding day, you aren’t going to care or notice if your wedding didn’t follow the exact timeline you mapped out or had the exact number of flowers you desired. I would also say be mindful and appreciate to those who help you plan your wedding. I am so grateful for my mom and for the hours we spent planning. I will never forget those memories!
What is one piece of couple/marriage advice you have for our readers?
Make sure to always communicate with your spouse! You can’t read each others minds, so be upfront if you desire to have something happen and don’t assume your spouse will just know! Also, never stop learning about one another. In life we are always learning more and more about ourselves, it is important to know that in relationships there are always more opportunities to learn about someone and learn how to best love and support them.
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
What do you love most about your wife?
The thing that I love most about my wife, is her incredible heart to serve. The way that she so naturally serves me, other family, friends and countless others never ceases to amaze me. She is selfless and incredibly caring.
What do you love most about your husband?
The thing I love most about my husband is that he has a servants heart, always asking me and others how he can help them. I love that he always has the biggest smile on his face and can make anyone feel welcome and laugh!
How has marriage made you grow as a person and/or couple?
Marriage teaches you so much about yourself, how you interact with people, how you communicate, how you forgive. We are learning everyday how to better communicate, forgive and love one another. Setting aside our own desires and wishes to make the other happy. When we both do this simultaneously our marriage flourishes.
What are you looking forward to in your marriage in the next 10 years?
Being able to explore and go on more vacations together & adding kids to our lives!
