Today we’re excited to share with you Sidney Leigh Photography’s sweet Shenandoah Valley, Virginia Wedding!! Heidi and Kyle tied the knot at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the first day of October. The wedding was completely DIY, and Heidi rocked the neutral + gold palette! This wedding was homegrown, sweet, and stunning!
Meet Heidi and Kyle!
How did you meet your spouse?
Kyle and I met at Longwood University. He was a freshman and I was a junior. He started hanging out with my best friend’s boyfriend so naturally the four of us were hanging out pretty frequently. Kyle asked his friend if I was seeing someone and was disappointed to find out that I was but he waited patiently. Six months later, my relationship had ended and Kyle asked me out to dinner on Valentine’s Day. As most would say, it’s been history ever since!
Tell us your proposal story!
Kyle had my ring for about a month waiting for the perfect moment. Our best friends (the one’s that introduced us) came to Norfolk to see our new apartment. It was close to Christmas so the Botanical Gardens had a major light show. Kyle knows how much I love Christmas so he planned for the four of us to have dinner and walk through the show. We got to the light show before it was even dark so we walked around waiting for it to be dark enough to enjoy the lights. At one point in our walk I had taken the lead and the other three were behind me, that’s when Kyle gave them the heads up, he was going to propose. We got to the top of a gorgeous overlook and decided to take pictures. Luckily, I had decided to shed a few of my mismatched layers for the pictures because it turned into our proposal! We were also fortunate enough to get it on video! Perfect. Timing.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Heidi – Of course my favorite part of the day was seeing Kyle when I walked down the aisle. I dreamed about that moment since I was little, and he did not disappoint. He had the best reaction with plenty of tears. There wasn’t a dry eye in the crowd.
Kyle – This might sound insensitive in a way but my favorite part about the wedding was the weather. Heidi has always wanted an outdoor ceremony and she worked so hard to put our wedding together that I just wanted it to be perfect for her. It rained extremely hard all day Friday and in the morning on Saturday but as soon as all our guests started arriving, the sun came out and it was awesome! It couldn’t have been better timing.
What do you love most about your husband?
His sensitivity. I love that he has such a tough exterior but such a warm heart!
What is one piece of wedding planning advice you have for our readers?
Plan around your wedding photographer. They’ve been there, done that! If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, they can recommend the best start time so you have time to do pictures before/during/after, they have lots of suggestions. An amazing photographer is worth EVERY PENNY, you’ll be looking at these pictures for the rest of your life.
What is your favorite date night?
Heidi – I think my favorite date night are the spontaneous ones. The dates that aren’t planned. The more planned out a date is the less I relax during that time.
Kyle – I enjoy going on dinner dates. A fancy sushi date some nights or beer and wings when a game is on, those are my favorite dates.
What is one piece of couple/marriage advice you have for our readers?
Heidi – Communicate! As a woman, I have the tendency to expect Kyle to know what’s wrong or how I want something done when in reality he’s on a completely different page than me! When I actually explain and communicate to him what’s wrong or what I want done then we get things done faster and there’s generally no argument!
Kyle – The wifey is always right…don’t argue over stupid/little stuff. Never go to bed mad at one another.
What are you looking forward to in your marriage in the next 10 years?
Heidi – KIDS! I love kids and I cannot wait to have some of my own. However, the most exciting part is seeing my husband become a father. Just thinking about it makes me love him even more!
Kyle – A house of our own, kids and watching our family grow!
